The "Materieel 1946 ELD4" EMU class of the Dutch Railways was a class of streamlined EMU's which was, as the name suggests, delivered around 1946, just after the end of the Second World War. The series was delivered with both two part and four part EMU's. In Dutch Classics 11 you find the virtual representation of the four part EMU's in high detail.

In the real world only one EMU of the two part (ELD2) trainsets was saved to be displayed in the Dutch Railway Museum; of the four part EMU trainsets, unfortunately not a single EMU was saved from demolishment. The EMU series were the first new trainsets after the Second World War. The EMU class was a follow up to the earlier EMU series Materieel 1936 and Materieel 1940. The trainset of Materieel 1946 share a number of details with them.

In Dutch Classics 11 you find not one edition but all editions of the four part trainsets of the EMU class. Materieel 1946 was in service between 1946 and the eighties of the twentieth century. The olive green with red color scheme, the later dark grey and green color scheme and the grass green with yellow color scheme with the stylized painted wing on the front of the EMU's are all included in this add on.

As in the other add ons of Dutch Classics, the trains are represented in high detail. The full interior has been rendered for realistic light and shadow effects that the simulator is not capable of itself. The EMU's had interior lights with light bulbs. The light bulbs can be switched on and off and can be seen from the passenger view and from the outside of the EMU's. With the high detail level the trains still look good on multi monitor setups and when viewed on a high resolution screen. With playability and performance in mind, levels of detail have been used to show detail where it is required and omit detail when it is not necessary. A large part of the details of the real EMU's has been recreated on the virtual version of the EMU's. Sources of information are pictures, books, technical drawings and first hand experience in the two part EMU which shares a lot of elements with the four part EMU's.

The list of features of the EMU's includes the following:

  • Exterior 3D model recreated with accuracy, with correct dimensions and shaping, with many details
  • The EMU's feature a shared bogie between the coaches and a bogie under the carriage on front, back and middle of the EMU's
  • Realistic cabin, based on the original with functional instrument panel and with many animations, from the buttons and lights of the instruments to the windows that can be opened for fresh air and the three windshield wipers which can be operated independently (two of them are manually operated in the simulation, just like in the original EMU's)
  • Switchable from simple mode to expert mode for more realism in the operation of the EMU's as a virtuele engine driver (many expert mode functions however are also available in simple mode, however).
  • In consists the EMU's can be combined with the Materieel 1954 en Materieel 1957 EMUY's, just like in the real world
  • Four realistic passenger views in the coaches of the EMU's, including the classic and the modernized versions
  • Levels of Detail have been used in the 3D models, so that detail is shown on close views but is omitted when observing the trains for a larger distance.
  • Optimized for memory use where possible
  • Dynamische numbering implemented
  • A large number of consists is included. These are composed of different combinations of the EMU's. Also, consists with combinations with the Materieel 1946 ELD2 EMU's of Dutch Classics 10 and Mat'54 EMU's of Dutch Classics 6 and 8 have been created. For these consists, it is required that Dutch Classics 6 and/or Dutch Classics 8 and/or Dutch Classics 10 are installed.

Except for the consists, a number of simple scenarios is included for the following routes:

  • TestTrak route
  • HCC Berkendam-route

Please note!: In case you do not own the above routes, the scenarios for these routes are unfortunately not available. Of course you can always use the EMU's in a route of your choice and in your own custom scenarios or in quickdrive.

For the scenarios for the HCC Berkendam route, this add on is required. The add on can be obtained online from the Dutch HCC Trainsim IG (http://www.hcc-trainsimig.nl).
